If your hard disk does not register in the BIOS then you can only potentially recover by taking the drive to a recovery center. But that is very costly and might cost thousands of dollars. People only do it if they have to.

If the BIOS picks up your drive, then you can often use a Hard drive recovery tool to salvage the data over to another hard drive.

If your drive is working fine, then you can use a tool like recuva to find and restore deleted files.
