HDD with failed OS booting over new Windows 8 HDD

Hello and thank you for your time,

For some reason or another windows crashed on me so rather than pay for an iffy repair I have moved on to windows 8 installing it on a new HDD. I had thought I moved this HDD up in the boot order properly, but to my vexation when I have the old HDD (containing the failed windows operating system) plugged in that is what boots; rather than my clean new windows 8 on my new HDD.

Why is this happening and is there a fix? I may be able to hook the HDD up via external USB connection but I would rather not have to resort to that.

  1. Unplug the HDD with failed windows, and do a clean install of WIN 8 on the new HDD. Then plug back the old HDD. It should solve the problem.
