Hey,

My dads laptop had a virus, we installed a new fresh version of windows 7, now that is done I quickly realise that I can't access the internet due to there being no drivers installed. The wireless drivers and every other internet driver is not installed.

Im basically stumped and don't know what to do.

I don't even know what drivers to download (on to my pc and transfer them over via USB stick) because I don't know what networking card the laptop has.

Any suggestions or solutions are greatly needed. Thanks in advance great people of TH!!!!

You already have the answer, download the drivers for that particular laptop on another PC and transfer them to the laptop. If you don't know which ones to download, don't worry, get them all and install them all (even for the same model, manufacturers will have several drivers on their website for certain hardware). A system will only use the drivers that apply to it's particular configuration, but it will NOT be impeded in any way by the additional drivers.
Once you have installed the networking drivers and you have internet access, you can also let Win7 get the drivers online for the remainder of the hardware. Or, you can just do the same as before.

house70, I found where I can download the drivers for my HP laptop but when does it prompt me to save them to the disk instead of on my husband's laptop which is not an HP? I just don't want to mess up my husband's computer.

Just create a folder for all the drivers on any machine you want; it won't mess it up (unless they have a shoddy source, in which case you could end up with a virus). If they come from HP, I would not worry about it, but if you want you can scan that folder before doing anything else with it.

I am having the same problem, installed windows 7 from the Windows 7 CD, now my Toshiba laptop has no drivers. I have downloaded the drivers onto USB and when I try to install them onto the laptop when they install it is trying to access the internet to install. How do you get around that when you dont have the internet?

Disconnected your laptop from the internet, download and copy the network drivers to a folder on a different computer, copy to usb drive, install on laptop, then plug the network cable back into the router for internet access on the laptop.

I have the same problem.
But how can you transfer them.. USB sticks and SD cards don't work, you can't make a lan-connection either.

USB drivers should be detected by the Windows OS and installed already, try to use a thumb drive on the laptop to test before the copy process.

I am not able to install via USB also as the drivers are missing and windows 7-64 bit Ultimate, which I installed, is not installing the usb drivers.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have a question:
Similar problem - I have freshly installed Windows 7 on Zenbook UX31E and lost all my drivers. ALL = wireless but also USB drivers (and my RJ45 is connected via USB adapter)
I am desperate to find out how to bring new drivers to my notebook as it does not read any external source.

Save me, pls

It should be fairly straightforward:

From another computer, go to the manufacturer's website for your computer and search for your computer model. Alternatively search your computer model into Google or Bing, but make SURE you're going directly to the manufacturer's website. Once you've found the driver or software page for your model, download all of the drivers listed (if you know which ones you need feel free to leave the others, but if in doubt go ahead and grab them all). Keep in mind that downloading the drivers is NOT the same as installing them. When you download them it will ask if you want to run or save, you should select 'save'. Either save them to your flash drive directly or save them somewhere you can get to easily. Once you've done that for all of them, go ahead and move the drivers onto the flash drive if they aren't already there, and then eject the drive.

Put the drive in the problem computer and it should install a driver automatically and be recognized within about a minute. If nothing happens after a couple of minutes go ahead and feel free to try a different port, but be careful not to pull the drive out if Windows is installing a driver or otherwise working with it. If you've tried a few or all of your ports and it's still not working, then that would be an altogether different issue because as far as I understand the driver should install automatically regardless of the state of any other drivers in the computer, or whether they are wholly absent, as in this case.

Once it's in the computer, drag the files onto a folder somewhere you can get to, and go ahead and start installing them one by one. If it asks for an Internet connection it means that it needs to download further files. In that event, go back to your source computer, run the driver there to download the files, and take the downloaded files and run THOSE in the problem computer. If at any point you feel unsure, it may be best to stop and show the computer to someone before going further, but in general you shouldn't have to do that. The drivers that you download from the manufacturer's website should run on their own, generally speaking, without needing an Internet connection.

Once you have them all, of course remember to restart. At that point, everything should be working.

Three steps: 1.Factory reset; 2.Download drivers; 3.Install the new system and drivers.

This works even if you don't have internet connection from the new system, usb drive, sd cards, and CD-ROM.

Factory reset: restart your computer but press esc before entering windows, and you will find the option.

If you still want the new system, download all drivers and store them in your computer before installing the new system. You will find them in "windows.old" after installing.

USB should work. make sure its not a port on the card reader (try all available ports), if you are really stuck you can use the windows DVD to boot in to the repair options. from within there you should be able to copy the files from the USB stick to the hard drive, then reboot back in to windows, alternatively one step futher would be to download a version of linux that boots from CD and use that to access your USB ports and copy the files over.

Same here. Installed win7 from USB drive on a new laptop and when finished nothing was recognized (usb, gpu, network ...) I downloaded the drivers from another computer but i don't know how to move them to the laptop. I don't have a CD/DVD rom in the laptop. Interesting is that i was able to install the windows from an USB drive, then..USB not recognized.

I solved the problem by installing Windows 8.1 OS at first, all drivers were installed automatically. I copied the drivers from an USB pen drive to a partition, then i istalled windows 7 without formatting that partion containing the drivers. Installed the drivers and it's working fine.

First of all I'm sorry for my bad english since unfortunatelly this is not my first lenguaje.

After my brain melted trying to figure out the best answer from all forums, I quit and tried to think by myself.
After 1 day of thinking I get into a pretty simple answer... "the usb is detected during windowss installation since I installed it from a pen drive..."

So what I did was:
1.- Load my wireless card driver to my pen drive that has the bootable windows
2.- Restart my laptop in order to boot from windows 7 installation.
3.- Instead of selecting start setup, I went to repair options
4.- Once in repair options select CMD
5.- In CMD identify the current letters of your drives in order to proceed
(this by following commands)
diskpart (enter)
list volumes (enter)
(information is displayed)
exit (enter in order to leave diskpart)
6.- once physical units are identified. just use CMD to perform the copy of the folders you want
xcopy "D:\source_drives" C:\destination_drives /s/c/y
7.- exit windows installation, turn off computer and remove pen drive
8.- Once you start windows 7 again, files must be on your local drive; just install them from there.

In my case I selected the wireless card since with internet connection everything is easier, but you can put any driver you want and copy that to your local drive.

I hope this helps, and please give a thumbs up or a congrats since i spend an entire day trying to solve this :D

Best regards!

This doesn't work as the USB ports aren't working either, nor the cd/dvd drive.

I faced this issue yesterday, then find out that repair option works. I think this solution works but mine is a little bit easier for normal end-users (no command line, just use your mouse)

Status: After installation of Windows 7: no usb, no Lan, no wireless, no bluetooth.

1. Load DRIVERS (usb 3.0, networks... anything) to Windows 7 installation usb drive (or another usb drive)
2. Restart the laptop, boot from Windows 7 installation usb.
3. Choose "repair option"
4. Following the process, you will see a dialog box asking you which Windows installation (location) you want to repair. But there is an option which allows you to install other drivers (Windows installation process thinks that it may not see all Windows in your laptop because of the lack of drivers).
Of course we do not install driver here, we just MAKE USE of the copy/paste feature of the select file/folder of Windows Explorer to copy ours DRIVERS to hard disk.
4. Then click on "Load drivers" (or something like that), the select file/folder dialog will open. (Similar to this)
IC534156.png

Plug the usb drive in if you use another usb drive to store DRIVERS:
- Click on the combobox Look in (on top) to jump to the usb drive,
- Right lick on the folder containing DRIVERS, select COPY.
- Jump to the hard drive which contains Windows (e.g C or D drive, depends on your laptop)
- Right click, chose PASTE.

wait a little bit to make sure that all files will be copied correctly.

That's it. You have copied all DRIVERS to your hard drive. You now use Power button to power down the laptop, then restart it again. Install the DRIVERS you have on the hard drive.

Always, always, ALWAYS keep blank DVD-R disc they're becoming obsolete and they aren't priced too bad. In the above a lot of people say use USB drives well when you use Windows Disc bought from amazon or ebay these are retail disc. They install the basic of the basic just to install the system and alot of the time usb hubs on computers do NOT even have those basic drivers installed. HOWEVER they 99 percent of the time can still read disc so using another computer download the drivers for the machine that needs them and COPY DO NOT BURN THE FILES TO THE DISC drop and drag the files like you would a usb and then put the disc in the needed machine and there you go. I always only download the LAN and Wireless drivers because from there windows update or you can do everything else. THIS IS THE EASIEST METHOD given you have the disc or the time and money to go grab some.

No they shouldn't. Because windows 7 does not have USB 3.0 drivers, you have no ways to transfer anything.

The reason why a generic lan driver is not installed automatically after a fresh install of windows 7 (provided you did a custom install and formatted the hard drive) is simply because these laptop manufacturers prefer their own bloatware drivers then any generic driver (they already have deals with Microsoft to make programs like this and stop the generic driver from being installed in the first place). This is why, as explained when you re-install windows 7, it doesn't install the generic Lan / Bluetooth / WiFi driver.

The easiest way around this entire problem in the future, is to quickly compile your own version of windows 7, and during install simply instruct it to install all the drivers you could possibly need. Keep this copy on a thumb drive somewhere, so next time, when you do a fresh install of windows 7, once installed it will be ready to go, you can even install programs silently during the install of windows 7 too, so basically once it's installed , you don't have to worry about installing everything again, because you did that during the install of windows 7 ;)

You could download your drivers from the manufacturers website to your smart phone or to a tablet, then simply copy the driver off the device on your desktop..voila!

But yes, I recommend to anyone, compile your version of windows 7, there is a program for it, then slap in all the drivers you need for it, and the programs you want to install, including anti virus / firewall / other programs...sorted!!
