How to I find and format my USB device when no drive letter is allocated. My USB makes a sound as if it is recognised when it is plugged in but does not show up as a drive. I've tried using the command line with diskpart, I've also tried Bootice, SDformatter and and all the windows tools I could find. (this includes going to computer management-storage)

The device DOES show up in the device manager but has very few details about what it is apart from a usb device. I've tried all the windows update tools.

Perhaps the device is beyond repair but I'd don't want to give up when the answer is possibly quite simple.

The only other detail I could add is that the problem first occurred when the device was plugged into a computer running the Ubuntu operation system.

Thanks

(Sorry if this is a double post)
I realise you say you were in storage manager.. if you go into disk management .. does it show up there?

If so, you probably just have to change the drive letter it is using to something else available.

As I said, I've tried "all the windows tools"

Windows does not allocate a drive letter. Here is a screen shot to make it clearer. The drive that is circled in red is the pen drive, I'm sure of this because when i plug it in it appears and when I unplug it disappears. However it never shows up in the disk management under the storage area

I've also noticed that sometimes it causes my computer to hang or freeze, then when I unplug the computer runs fine. I plugged it in beside another working pen drive, it did not show up, but when I removed the working drive it didn't disappear. I waited for some time, then tried to eject it and it told me it wasn't there, which I new of course as I'd physically removed it, however when I removed my faulty pen drive, the other drive finally disappeared also. Very strange, the faulty one is only 4gig, it might be ready for the trash heap. I just loved the nano size and like trying to solve puzzles. Perhaps someday we will fix it and then it will be worth more for the 0.0001 gram of silver inside it lol
