I recently built my first PC, and I think I did a good job, but the core temperature is running a little hot for my taste, but I don't know how to cool it down.

I have:

I7 4770k (3.5 GHz) with stock cpu heatsink/fan
MSI R7950 twin frozer iii 3Gb Gpu
Asus Z87 PRO
8Gb corsair vengeance RAM (1866 MHz)
750w corsair 80+ gold PSU
2Tb Seagate barracuda HDD
120Gb Samsung 840 evo SSD
generic disc drive reader/writer

Case is NZXT phantom full tower (black) http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/34-phantom

Cooling:
intel stock CPU heatsink/fan
3 120mm nzxt fans (came with case) two at bottom of HDD cage near front, one near the top of the rear, and one 200mm LED near the rear of the top.

I have the fans plugged into my case included fan controller, but they don't seem to make a difference whatsoever to the temperature(whether turned up or down, I can't turn them off). I would rather have a solution that didn't require buying new fans, but I don't mind too much if it solves the problem.

its running 30 degrees Celsius at idle at the moment

Hi You are running a stock cooler, which is fine if you do not plan on OCing. I have the smae CPU and my temps are running between the mid 20'sC to 30C. Your temp is fine. Your case fans are fine. Put your hand over the top and if the air coming out is cool then you are fine. If you want to get a cooler on the CPU, then get a good aftermarket cooler and not use the stock cooler that came with the processor.

my friend has almost identical parts (same CPU, GPU, MOBO, rest is similar), and he idles at 18 degrees, and runs battlefield 3 at 25 degrees. he has 3 120mm out takes and one 140mm intake, and also uses the intel stock CPU heatsink/fan. I might get a 200mm side intake.

I just noticed that you are running the same MOBO and processor I am. I am Using three 120mm for exhaust ( I rear and 2 top ) and a single 200mm in the front for intake. I am also using a Gelid Tranquillo for the CPU and have it OC'd to 4.6 Ghz.
