I built a PC for the first time at the weekend, but I have a problem, as many first-time builders do.

I have the OS (Win 7 64 bit) installed on my 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO, and I have a 2 Tb Seagate barracuda for everything else. but all data, unless I specifically change its save location first (which doesn't seem to be an option/I don't know how to do it with google chrome), saves to the SSD

Solution

The Chrome browser? That should work.

But to change it directly in the browser settings:

"You can choose a location on your computer where downloads should be saved by default or pick a specific destination for each download.

1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
2. Select Settings.
3. Click Show advanced settings and scroll down to the "Downloads" section.
To change the default download location, click Change and select where you'd like your files to be saved.
If you'd rather choose a specific location for each download, select the "Ask where to save each file before downloading" checkbox."

You can change it directly in Windows Explorer. Your browsers will use whatever Windows tells them to.

Open Win Explorer
Right click on Downloads, select Properties
On the Shortcut tab, change the "Target:" value to somewhere on the HDD.
