Hi everyone--just made my new desktop and all I have left is to choose a video card. My maximum price would be $250 but I'd like to spend a little less if possible. I've been checking out the GTX 760 and the Radeon HD 7950. The 7950 is definitely cheaper ($180-$200 on newegg after rebates) compared to the $250 GTX 760. It looks like the 7950 has an extra GB of RAM and also scores higher on PassMark's website (4600 vs. 4000).

Does anyone have a recommendation on these cards? I'm confused as to why the Radeon is so much cheaper when it is seems to be better. nVidia has always been my brand of choice, but I would be okay with switching.

Any advice on these two cards, or a different card (<$250) that would be recommended?

Thanks!

For reference, the rest of my system:

It really depends on your preference, Nvidia or AMD. The 7950 is a great card and will be good for gaming. AMD are bringing out new cards soon, hence the reduction in the 'old' ones. For that price, I'd take the 7950. However, this may help:

What kind of monitor(s) do you have? I'd say that's the main reason to chose green or red team: the larger the resolution, the comparatively better does AMD perform over NV (maybe because of larger RAMs?). For 1920x1080 or below, go NV, otherwise go amd. There are other things to consider, like price, but both brands have kickass gpus
