Accidentally posted as question only - discussion is fine.

Folks here helped me with a parts list. It includes a SSD: Plextor PX-128M5S

Newegg has this SSD on sale ($79.99). Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD).

I wonder if the Toshiba is comparable to the Plextor. With the Newegg promotion the Toshiba is $20 cheaper than the Plextor. The specs shown on Newegg show the Toshiba with a faster sequential write time. But Newegg doesn't list the random read/write times for the Toshiba - I am not even sure about the significance of random vs sequential read/write times.

Solution
Go for the Toshiba one, if the Plextor one has any advantage in terms of random it won't be noticeable.

The difference is that random means how fast can it write blocks of 4K (or other sizes) randomly into the drive, into any location. Sequential means how fast can it write them all one next to the other.

usually a file is written sequentially, which means that big files like movies can be written super fast but system is often doing full random operations like loading some files for a application, writing some of downloads to the drive, while antivirus reads a lot of small files.
In real world random is often more important then sequential.

Correct, random will have more impact in day-to-day operation, while sequential will have more impact when copying large files, moving things around.

Even with that in mind, the performance difference would be negligible, if any, especially when you take into account you have a discount on one of them.

popatim, that's not the same SSD. The specs you linked are for the HDTS212EZSTA. That one retails for around $130. The Toshiba in question is the HDTS212XZSTA, which is cheaper (retail around $110) than the one you linked. The XZSTA is also usually on some kind of special pricing deal for around $70 - $80.

I wouldn't put my money into a Toshiba SSD drive. There are drives that are much better, like the Plextor drives. I always recommend people buy the best they can afford. You can buy the Plextor M5P Xtreme 128Gb on Amazon for $130 right now and the 256Gb for $220.

Honestly, these drives are killer and have amazing read/write speeds. My benchmarks put it at a 480/400. Can't go wrong.
