Using one 6pin adaptor causes an issue?

Before I decide to go around and ask family and friends for uhh...charity funding I want to make sure Thatt he issue is what I think it is.

Using an ASUS GTX 760 requires an 8pin connection which my current high power 500w lacks, but the card came with a 2x6 pin adaptor into an 8pin. My PSU only has one 6pin connector and is currently plugged into one of the two adapters. Plugging it in one way doesn't work but putting it in hype other does and we thought it would be fine.
But is it really fine? I get stuttering and frame issues during gaming and I wanted to rule out this issue before returning the card.

And if that is the case, recommended PSU would be great :)

A 6 pin PCIe connector is designed to deliver 75W. An 8 pin connector is designed to provide 150W.

You probably have enough raw power to run the card and the system. You just need to provide more power to the video card. This will let you plug in your second 6pin connector. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812887001

Though a new power supply is never a bad thing. I usually recommend the XFX 550W.

so it's a cheapo power supply... 500w means its actually going to be able to handle 300w.

you need buy something decent.

a real shady (but cheap) fix you can try, is getting a molex to 6 pin adapter.

so to fuel your 8 pin GPU... youd have a 6pin adapter and a molex to 6pin adapter, both connected via adapter into the 8pin GPU

:) just get a decent power supply. you can get an OCZ 600 watt for $50 after rebate on newegg typically I've bought several of them.

Just found the PSU model. (Being blind as a bat as always)
High power Plus 500w

But what people have said seemed to confirm what I thought. Because I'm only using one of the 6pin adaptor, the 760 is getting power to run, but not enough power in order to function correctly, hence why when I game, the slowdown is from the card not getting enough power in order to operate, correct?

Thought so. Nice to get conformation on it and it's not a faulty card.
