I sold my old computer that I built by myself $2300 high end gaming pc. I sold it to a friend and he loves it his friend wants one but knows squat about computers. I havent discussed the details with him like price and components yet but was wondering what the general fee is to do this. I may do it for free but if it's usually 100-200$ I may just do it for 60-70 bucks.

Thanks

If he's not your friend, i would still charge a small premium, $70 doesn't sound bad to me for your time, he'll still be getting a great deal. I'd be sure to charge him $70 before any rebates too and them give him whatever he needs to do it himself, you don't want to add more work for yourself and be waiting months.

Depends, If I build a computer for someone It's usually quite a lot of work. I stress test the CPU,GPU, run memory and HDD diagnostics. I also create backup and bootable rescue partition. (I insist they buy Acronis). all this on top of windows updates and various tweeks. I do this because I want to minimize the chances the customer will have issues later on. So I'd charge 200 for all the work.

But if your just going to slap it together, install windows and call it a day. then 70 to 100 I guess.

Thats a good point about the rebates. Ill just give him those or send him the links to print those off, but after i get paid.

Also i will be making sure everything does work, i wont be going to the extent of stress testing but i will install all software and updates and make sure everything is running correctly. Yes id like to minimize any problems he may come across but at the same time im going to ensure he understands he will have to do all maintenance and no hardware failure will be my fault he will have to contact the parts company.

I love building PC's. ive built a couple, getting paid for me is just a bonus, it does make sense to cover my time and efforts to though.

I'm right there with you, I love building PC's too, i built PC's for a few family members and it was the greatest to get to build them with other people's money, i'd do it for a living if there was any money to be made in it :)

Thats one of the exciting parts i dont have to pay for it to build it! I like planning it out, researching parts i find out more everytime i go on a "best motehrboard" spree for instance lol so its fun for sure. If there was money to be made i would definetly do it. I know of one buissness around here that does called "computer essentials". My girlfriends brother spent 1600 on a PC and was braggin about it, i went onto newegg and got all identical parts for $1100 that was awhile before i built mine. SO it was a no brainer to build my own.
