I have ethernet cables, Suddenlink modem, and router. Modem is connected to router so I can have wireless internet on my laptop. I was given the laptop and want to transfer files from desktop to laptop. How exactly can I connect the two computers to do so? or can I? I'm not as tech-savvy as most, so I need exact explanations if possible....thank you!

Both machines connected to the router, either wired or wireless.
Share a folder on one of them. Give permissions to an account that lives on the other machine.
In Windows Explorer, under Networks, you should see that shared folder
Copy/paste files as needed.
Or use a USB drive.
Or DropBox.
