Built my first computer a few days ago- It turns on, fans start spinning, lights turn on... But no POST, POST beep or anything. The monitor stays black.Ive gone through the troubleshooting list... but nothing. Is my CPU or Motherboard faulty?

I assembled everything very carefully inside and outside the case, using an antistatic wristband.
When I short the power pins/press the power button on my case, all of the fans start spinning, the LEDS light up... But the monitor stays black. No POST beep, no BIOS, no POST. Im at my wits end.

SPECS

CPU- AMD Athlon X4 750K Trinity 3.4GHz Socket FM2 100W

Motherboard- MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 FM2 AMD A75

Power Supply- COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-550-PCAR-E3 550W

Video Card- Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti

I have gone through the list here...

<http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-ste...;

...completely, no success. I have tried:

-breadboarding
-replacing / trying a new graphics card
-removing RAM sticks and trying to boot (I got three long beeps)
-trying 1 RAM stick at a time
-resetting CMOS
-reassembling/reseating all components
-the 4- pin CPU power is plugged in, the 20 pin main power is plugged in, the CPU fan is plugged in, the PSU is plugged in, and the video card power is plugged in.

Another note- I am using a mini HDMI - VGA adapter for my monitor, not sure if that could be a problem.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Have you tried using the onboard video connection. This would help eliminate the possibility that the default video adapter is defaulted to the onboard apu.

Unfortunately that is not an option, as the onboard video is only supported by an APU such as AMD A6, A8, or A10. The Athlon X4 is just a CPU, and doesn't have integrated graphics. Therefore I must use a video card

Hmm, yea I can see how that would put you in a bit of a bind. You computer however does start up. Hmm, and I see based on the motherboards cpu support list you are good. If you've just purchased the items you can always return the board and have a replacement sent to you shrugs. I would start with the motherboard.

Ok, I suppose I could RMA it and hope for the best. However, before I do that, is there any way to see if it is a faulty board, or if my CPU is faulty?

Well your computer is powering up. If your computer remains powered up meaning that your fans are still moving and led's are still displaying then I would say that its not as likely for something to be up with the CPU.

check that the bios on the mb at a rev to boot the mb. on the mb check that your not missing a standoff and the mb not shorting out. also on some cases if the tray not flat it can hit the bottom of the cpu cooler and short out. check that the cpu cooler if it has a back plate is not shorting the mb out. the io shield can short your mb out as a bad case fan or usb port.

Im breadboarding on cardboard, so I dont think shorting out could be an issue. Also, im not using a CPU cooler, just the cpu fan which has no bottom plate.

Ah ok, however I am breadboarding and the plate is not attached, therefore it shouldn't be an issue.
