Hello community,

I've been looking to build my own rig for a while now, but I've been holding off until black friday to purchase all the parts. However, I stumbled upon tigerdirect today and found that they're having a huge sale on several things, especially AMD gpus, probably in relation to the new release of the R series coming out soon.

I was curious if this 7950 gpu is worth the buy, or will I be able to get an equivalent or even better price for it during black friday?

On a side note, I'm also looking for monitors as well, and I have absolutely no idea how to pick and choose one. I'm looking for a monitor that can support good gaming, but I dont know how much gaming I'll be doing in the near future. I saw this as part of teh deal, and I think the specs are great? Any advice about this monitor or suggestions for good monitors with low price ranges would be great!

Currently that is a great deal, but we have no way of knowing what Black Friday will be like...and the new R7's and R9's will be out by then...which will probably change prices as well...i wish we knew the future, but we don't. Personally, i pulled the trigger and bought a 7970 for $230 the other day, and i'm happy with it.

Well it is hard to say, I have seen the HD7950 as low as 179.99 but it is not unlikely that one of them will be on BF deal as an outgoing model.

Hey man AMD GPU's are really worth it i am looking at buying two 7950 and making them crossfire. I would recommend you do the same, up to you though. Having two (which aren't expensive) can get you up to 200FPS running ultra on Battlefield 3 and runs crysis 3 maximum. If you do not want to get two (which would also mean increasing your power supply Wattage) I would then recommend a 7970 ,as I know many people who have this card and have no problem with it. And for your monitor ,well then just make sure if you want a good one for gaming it does not really matter what you get just try and get 1080p, HD, over 20 inches and usually lCD have the best life expectancy. any more questions feel free to ask.

May I ask where you got that 7970 for that price? From what I understand of the new R7/R9, most of them are repackaged 78XX/79XX radeon cards, and the 7970 even with the new releases, would still be considered top end GPU?

I got it on ebay, brand new, it was an RMA replacement that someone got and immediately turned around and sold, it's also a GHz edition, which still command a bit of a premium, i was planning on waiting for the new cards before deciding, but it was too good to pass up. The 7970 i think becomes a mid/high end instead of top since the 290 and 290x are the top now, it seems that there won't be a real advantage to the 280x over the 7970 (the 7970 has benchmarked a bit higher so far), and it will still play whatever you throw at it with great settings for a while to come i'd think.
