So, I bought my Sapphire Dual-X 7970 not too long ago, maybe a month, and I just bought AC 3 because it was on sale for about 10 dollars. I started it up, and after looking at some benchmarks, put every setting on max because I only play on a 1600x900 monitor. At some parts I am getting drops to 40 and 50, yet benchmarks say I can get much better out of it? Any suggestions?

i7 3770 @3.4GHz
Sapphire 7970 Dual-X
Kingston DDR3 2x4GB
Corsair CX750M
WD 2TB
Windows 7 x64

Pretty new build, a few months

Did those FPS drops occur in Boston by any chance? The game is poorly optimized in general, but it seems that every GPU is going to take a huge hit when the player is running through Boston.

Dare I ask why 40 FPS is a problem? I don't start to notice significant choppiness in general until around 28FPS.
Requiring 60 FPS all the time is silliness.

Eh, its just, I want to get the best of the card I bought. Its more of just making the card perform how its SUPPOSED to perform. I guess its just how I am :D

For me it's like, "I just spent all of my ramen money for the next decade on a graphics card, this thing better be able to dominate the universe!"

I would expect it to play most games very well, especially the ones that are mainstream console titles, or games that are half a decade old. Yet, AC3 still gave me frame rates dips that are by no means unplayable, but definitely noticeable. Even my GTX 670 FTW was not able to run Crysis 1 maxed out at a constant 60+ FPS. Some games are either just too unoptimized or too demanding to behave like a videogame should when it's running on far better than average systems.

But I believe that one day, I'll eventually get a GPU that is powerful enough to the point where even when I'm overlooking the entire map with a huge frame rate dip, I would still be getting 60+ FPS.

Maybe the GTX 870 Remington 12 gauge edition will be able to pull that off in Crysis 1, seven years after the game's release.
