Is my motherboard the bottleneck?

I have a gtx 660 which supports dx11, but printed on my gigabyte z68ap-d3 it only says 10.1

do i need to upgrade my board or is this not a big deal?

No it is not a big deal the reference to DX on the motherboard is for the onboard GPU. Your Discrete card is still Dx11.

oh, ok. I think I was just looking for an excuse to upgrade my board. seems as though i flashed the bios for the rev2 addition of my board and i think it may be affecting my ability to run windows 8. can't seem to downgrade to my previous rev1 bios either.

Make sure you have all the latest mobo, GPU and Win Drivers

It is as good an excuse as any to get out of a board and upgrade.

I definitely would, but after installing 8.1 on a separate partition It would not boot past the splash screen. I got some sort of watchdog timeout error once but that's about it. I'm trying to look into whether or not I can just update to the newest rev2 bios and try installing Windows 8, then upgrade to 8.1 preview but I wanted some feedback first, and tweaktowns forums seem to be down at the moment.
