hated Metro, found SW Ex7forWin8 replaced w Win7 windows explorer.exe, problem now, colors reversed (black is white, etc) & get error "Desktop appearances personalization file did not load" Q: this sounds like must change registry, does anyone know how exactly step by step how for to do this w/o messing up registry? also, can I just replace this file instead, if so, where would I obtain? prefer to download it, also: can I run Win7 64bit in place of Win8, as Metro sux, so does no longer access to safe mode only inside of Windows only as when Win will not load, need to access safe mode outside of OS. Big mistakes in Win 8 are Metro screen and this change in Safe Mode Access. Thx4Help

Safe mode is still there and unless your system is set to boot to Secure Boot it loads now using shift+F8:

If you have secure boot enabled it will not allow it as its a way to prevent unauthorized access. Also if you have a SSD, sometimes it will load too fast. But safe mode is there.
Second, you really shouldn't be just replacing files. If you want the start menu back you should use Start8 or Classic Shell. If you hate Metro then wait till 8.1 hits next week and update to it and make it load to the desktop on startup.
You have probably messed up the system by replacing the files. And the Windows Explorer is not Metro as this style has been around since earlier versions of Office and is considered the ribbon layout, which I prefer as its all right there instead of having to navigate menus.
This last part may be a bit cruel but you might wan tog o back to 7 if you don't like or are not willing to learn 8s new GUI. either way you will have to learn it at some point in time as MS is not going to change back any time soon.

dear Jimmysmitty, appreciate ur comments, will ck out Win8.1 when comes available in Windows Updates, to start at desktop. The Metro keeps interjecting every single event prevents mouse click till minimize Metro screen out of way, also the stupid clock and date is in the way, why have this when is in lower right corner? again, adds extra steps to minimize, worthless feature. The touch screen is not available on my home premium version, but touching the plasma screen could damage it, I have done this once already, so would not use it. Had peanut butter then tried clean it off, is not necessary, do we all work at McDonald's so need touch screens? so we cant use mouse any more? this trend is a dumbing down, for morons who are too lazy to use a mouse, and it can damage plasma screen. Same with big screen plasma TVs. This is why McDonald's puts plastic covers over the plasma screens, from this problem, but laptops dont have this, so screens can damage easily. Thanks all your thoughts. This Pavillion does not have drivers except for Win 8, I dont know if would work with Win7 or not. I think waiting for Win 8.1 is best. Thx4Help.

8.1 will allow you to set boot to desktop, change how start works and remove the charms as well so I think it will work best for you as well.
