I was trying to reformat/reinstall XP on this system in hopes to increase performance.

When I boot from the re installation disc for XP it crashes during the first loading screen on the disc. And by crashes I mean that it just shuts off completely.

If I boot to to the windows XP already installed it does not crash.

This is an old PC used by a family member that did not take very well care of it and it is extremely bogged down by numerous programs and adware and the likes. My goal was to roll it back to the basic initial XP through the disc that came with the desktop

I suspect this could be a memory issue but I have no idea how to solve it. Why else would the computer run "fine" unless you are trying to reinstall windows. (The disc is brand new out of the package)

It varies. there is no disc read error either. It literally just shuts off. The heat-sinks inside don't appear to be hot either which had me ruling out overheating. Although I suppose that could still be the issue.

The baffling part is that I can run windows, albeit very slow, without it crashing, only happens when running the reinstallation disc
