I bought a Corsair CX 500 to replace a gateway 300. The problem I have run into is the connection for the CPU is only 4 pins while the corsair PSU has an 8 pin. Would it be okay to just cut the 8 pin connection off and replace it with the old 4 pin connection. I am just going to cut 4 of the 8 wires of course making 2 yellow and 2 black and leave the 8 pin connected to the other 4 wires and put the 4 pin on the 4 wires I have cut. It should work without any trouble right? If I need to reuse this PSU somewhere else I can still reconnect the 4 I cut and I am back in business.
I know I should probably just go back and hunt for another 4 days for the right PSU but I don't want to have to wait for another 2 weeks to get back to playing my games.

On that PSu the 8-pin cpu power connecotr splits in two parts so it can be connected to a 4-pin board.
