I have a small 2 port usb hub that does not work with anything that I connect to it. It is connected to the rear USB 2.0 port and the hub itself is detected no problem. when i plug an optical mouse in for example the light comes on at first for a second then goes out then comes back. It repeats this cycle until I disconnect the mouse. The hub then reconnects no problem, I have ruled out the hub as i have tried on a laptop and several other computers without this issue.
This leads me to believe that it is a power issue. In asus suite III there is an add-on usb power option that says (away mode) next to it.
I would like to know if this is potential a motherboard defect again as this is the second one, or a setting that needs to be changed. Any info would be appreciated.

Solution
1) Is the hub self powered?

2) You should be able to disable any EPU power savings I think.

3) It could be that the hub is not compatible with the board. The hub(s) we have tested with the Z87 boards are in the component QVL which is downloadable from the support page of the board.

After some more investigation, I discovered that it was the usb extension cable that i had on it. The usb B cable was not long enough to reach the pc so I used the extension that turned out to be the issue. Thank you for your response! Much appreciated!
