My sister just bought a Corsair 750 watt PSU and a Gigabyte 7970 ( yea, I told her the PSU is overkill but she was adamant in her decision, her cash so I don't care ) I installed it for her but when I tried to increase me resolution to 1600 x 1200 ( max on her crappy tv/monitor ) the screen will turn half black half green for 10 seconds and revert back to 1280 x 768. Could it be she has a bad monitor or cable? Would her motherboard or CPU limit the graphics card? She has a crappy Biostar mobo and an I5 2400. thanks in advance

My first guess is the refresh rate setting is wrong for the monitor. Try setting it to 50Hz first, then change the resolution, then change to 60Hz.

The MB and CPU shouldn't matter with this issue unless there was a pre-existing issue.

You may also want to double-check both power cables are plugged in to the 7970, though I don't think you'd get a picture if they weren't.
