Due to an awesome deal, I just unexpectedly acquired a new Sapphire Vapor-X HD7970 Ghz 3GB GDDR5. My question has to do with power.

Right now my power supply is a SeaSonic M12II 620W. The 7970 has 2 8 pin connectors, so my current plan is to hook up the single 8 pin cable and a 6+2 cable to the card.

Is this safe to do? Am I going to be running into any issues with amps? Or should I go ahead and upgrade to my power supply to something better?

FWIW, in addition to the 7970, I also will have a 1 tb caviar black, 128GB intel 520, and a dvd drive connected to the power supply. Someday I hope to get 2 addtional caviar blacks and the RAID everything together(but this probably won't be anytime soon).

Thanks

That PSU should be plenty for your setup. Seasonic make some nice PSUs. Just make sure you are plugging the 8 pin pci-e in and 6pin pci-e and youll be good to go.

So I could just use an 8 pin and a 6 pin, despite the card have two 8 pin ports?

Also, the link in my first post does not specify that the 8 pin wire is pci-e. Would I be safe to still use it despite it not being labeld as such? Or should I just 2 6+2 wires since those both 6 pins wires are labed as pci?

Yes use the 2 x 6+2. The 8pin you are referring to could be EPS or CPU power.
