Strange System Problem

Hi folks,

I'm having a weird problem with my system which is driving me nuts.

Intermittently, I launch an app and the screen will freeze for a few seconds, and the mouse pointer on occasion turns to:

I removed the monitor cable & reseated, and no longer received output on the screen. The same happens if I am to start a game.

Now it only seems to happen after i've been "stressing" the graphics, such as playing a game of using Furmark.

Temps are fine, mobo BIOS is latest (at optimized settings), Prime95 seemed ok, Memtest86+ tested fine, and SSD Pro reported drive as fine too.

I replaced most of system in June of this year with a 4770k, VI Maximus Hero, and 16gb corsair dominator, retaining the PSU, graphics and SDD, as I was having similar problems (but with that rig the display would just freeze with an annoying noise and i'd need to hard reboot), but was wondering if anyone has had similar experience and what they did to resolve? The CPU/Mobo/RAM came as part of a bundle that was apparently tested for 24 hrs from Scan.co.uk.

I installed a Corsair 750w PSU in August hoping that'd fix, but still no joy.

To add, clean installs of Windows 7 (with all updates) and Windows 8 haven't cured.

Cheers.

with ssd did you make sure that the firmware was up to date?? run hdtune check to see if the drive or sata chipset having any issues?? see if a friend has another power supply to rule out weak or noisy power supply. tried running on the ipgpu and seeing under load if the system hangs?? (removing the gpu)

Hi smorizio,

Thanks for the response.

I updated to the latest OCZ firmware when I purchased the drive, but will update to 1.5.1 now, it says there's no performance increase but at the mechanical level ... i didn't even give it a second thought so thanks for pointing that out.

Is there anything inparticular I should do within HDTune?

I've double checked and can see that my motherboard has an integrated HDMI port, i'll remove the graphics and give that a test, I didn't think I had integrated graphics ! Thanks for the help again.
