Put simply? Yes. =)

If you only intend on playing minecraft however I would lose the GPU. Minecraft is primarily a CPU based game, and will only require a GPU if you intend on using HD texture packs or graphics enhancing mods.

I don't play much anymore, but I wouldn't expect Optifine with Extreme render distance to yield that high of FPS. But Far +128 or more should be no problem. I can do 70+ on Far +128 with all the settings up on my HD7770.

Ahh, Optifine. How I love and hate you at the same time. XD

I like Optifine due to all the customisation and multi-core options, but i find it makes Minecraft too unstable. The extreme render distance is extreme for a reason. I barely get 40FPS on extreme render distance with my OC'd 8350. Lol

I haven't played 1.6, and very little 1.5. But in 1.4 times, Optifine was great. I never had any stability issues. I just assumed is was the same with the newer versions.

I'll admit I havnt played MC for a few months, I think the last verion I played was 1.4 as well.

I always had a problem with Optifine myself, even after setting up all the multicore options. =P

acualy thats not true minecraft needs a minamal of a 60 dollar gfx card to run max at 30 fps. i used to have a i5 quad core @ 3.6 ghz. with the gt 620 got maxet out without opengl on 30 fps ish. with my new hd 7750 i can run the game maxed out at 120 fps no problem. glsl shader + a shax 512 is no issue for it now. my old pc had a triple core 2.7 ghz procer and a 9200 intragetded. it ran the game minalmal settings at 70 fps. maxed it ran at about 12.

Admitadly, a dedicated GPU is required for OpenGL rendering, but the fact is you dont need a 660 to run MC. The OP doesn't need to spend that much money is what I'm saying. =)
