Comodo Internet Security Free + avz4 to stop problematic services that might not even need + use User account for daily things and login to Administrator only to install things. Actually there're more, and some will eliminate the need of antivirus and firewall but something tells me that you will use software thats not legal so keeping Comodo is a good thing. Also disable MS's own firewall, having defence with other defence systems will cause problems and make better possibility to brich in your system.

AVAST Software's avast! Free Antivirus most certainly deserves to be on any list of the best free antivirus programs. avast! Free Antivirus has fully functioning antivirus and antispyware engines protecting your PC from threats from the Internet, your files, emails, and even instant messages.

avast! Free Antivirus supports Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.I personally have been using it on one of my rigs for the past two years no issues thus far.

Windows 8 has Windows Defender built in which for 8 they took MSE and threw it into Defender so you already have an anti-virus built into the system.

The only thing you really need is a second opinion and for that I use SAS and MBAM in their free versions as a just in case.

To access Windows Defender just go to Control Panel and switch the view to small icons. It will be in there. Again, its the same as in other versions of Windows but has MSE built into it.

Use the Windows Defender, it takes like 1% of the CPU compared to other anti virusses (like McAfee) that takes up to 50% of your CPU performance.
I'm using the Windows Defender on my gaming PC, and so does my two other friends, and it has been working just fine :)

Widows defender, AKA MSE, sucks. I used to use it. Things got through, it did not notify you enough, yada yada yada.
Avast! is far better, I've not had a problem since I got it.

But your best defender is not to go looking for trouble, and be smart!

Are you using Windows 8? Because its much more integrated than MSE was.

And if you used it and things got through then you must be going on some shady websites. I have been using MSE since version 1 and have never gotten anything.

Neither has my wife or my HTPC.

If you play it smart then you don't need much more than MSE/Defender.
