LAN with ADSL modem?

hello,

i have an old adsl modem. it is Compex make model no. WRL245G. currently I use it to access internet on 1 PC. Now I want to use it as a switch to connect 4 PCs in LAN. But i want to grant internet access to only 1 of the 4 PCs connected.

In short: 4 pcs connected with each other in LAN and able to communicate with each other but only 1 of these PC should have internet access.

Is it possible?

Not easy in a foreign language, bit I will try! :) You need private / non routed ip addresses on the lan side of your network. The typical range used for a router is the 192.168.0.0. Only PCS with an ip address out of this pool (+ the router address as the gateway) will "find" the router and get access to the internet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network Assign an IP from a different pool, like the 10.0.0.0 to all four PCs (as a second IP to the internet PC). They will find each other over the switch now, but not the router itself.

i appreciate that you're trying to help but even though i know quite a bit of networking i am not able to understand what you mean... can you please be a little more elaborate? that would be very helpful... thanks

ok i somewhat understood what you want to say :)

but i still can't understand how can i assign 2 IPs to 1 interface (on the PC which is supposed to have internet access)

Assuming we are talking about windows and you know how to get to the TCP/IPv4 properties, just click on the <extended> button and add another IP.

i guess you are referring to the "advanced" button on TCP/IP properties... i'll try it out and report back :)
