I just bought a gtx 650 t boost sc, and it's a pcie 3.0 card, my mobo only has pcie 2.0.

Will the card work in the slot? And if so will there be any performance hinderence?

It will work as they are backwards compatible. I doubt you'll notice what little there may be. 3.0 is a wider bandwidth, but from what I've seen, a 3.0 card doesn't even fill up a 2.0 band. Some of the newest of card may, succh as a GTX 780, HD 7970, or Titan.

Brillient, well at least I can say I have a better gpu now though, as long as there won't be huge noticeable impacts from using a 2.0 slot I'm a happy chap haha.

Im using a PCIe 3.0 card at a 2.0 mobo. It works perfectly and the performance hit is almost unnoticeable.

I couldn't quite understand that, but I upgrading from a 550 ti, so the performance should be at the least 60% better.

Brillient answers all thank you :)
Glad that I won't really have a massive impact on the performance, hopefully if might be able to play some of the next gen games somewhat, and a new cpu cooler too :) .

Next upgrade is ram.

When it comes to that stuff, 3.0 card and 2.0 slot, I have been behind the curve 9 2.0 cards in a 1.0 slot ) until this last upgrade I did and had no problems. :D
