Hi,

I just put together a new system (few days old) and I’ve been having a lot of problems with my Gigabyte GTX 770 2GB windforce 3x.

#1. My monitors (I have two) would often go black, and then I’d get the error that the display driver had stopped responding but recovered. Digging around I found that this seemed to be a common issue. In addition it only seemed to happen with firefox open. I found the window Fix to increase the amount of time before Windows considers the display driver crashed and I switched to chrome, and this issue seems to be improved if not completely resolved.

#2. I can’t get into CIV V on DX 11. The game boots but almost immediately in the startup menu it’ll crash. And I’ll get an error about the display drivers crashing. I’ve tried changing graphic settings, changing power modes (eg adaptive/performance) all without success. I’ve reinstalled CIV, no change.

#3. In first person games…so far I’ve only run X-plane 9 and 10 and AC10 Simulator everything works on high graphic settings, however I get a lot of artifacting. All of a sudden the game is peppered with “static”…lots of little grey and white flashing pixels throughout the game. It’s not the monitors. Changing graphic settings from high to low etc doesn’t change this. I’ve tracked my GPU temps….thinking maybe that was causing a problem…but it occurs even when the temps are low (30-40C) and the GPU is not overheating. This issue starts within a 1-2 minutes of starting the game.
#4. The empire total war series plays fine. The graphics work at full settings without issues.

#5. I ran the Heaven benchmark program for 30 minutes on full settings without any graphical issues. The GPU never got hotter than 68C. I free roamed around without noticing any artifacting and I had good FPS with high settings.

Rest of system:
i5 4670k, not overclocked
ASUS Z87 pro LGA 1150 motherboard
8GB Kingston Hyper X 1600 MHz DDR3 (4gb x 2)
XFX Pro 750W Power supply

I’ve tried using the new Beta drivers, no change. Tried using old drivers, no change. Tried installing the GPU in another PCIe slot, no change.

Everything else on the system is working fine.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help!

It might be an internal problem with graphics card and you may have to RMA. If you overclocked this could be a result of you overclocking too high. I had a problem somewhat similar to this with my 680, and i had to RMA. I know, it sucks, but its the only option if you got a bad card. Or you can bring it back to the retailer, if you bought it in a store and not online.

I'm experiencing the first issue as well, using an EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Dual FTW. But weirdly enough, it only seems to happen when I have Windows Media Player open. My music stops and the screen flickers for a bit, then everything's normal again. Happened a total of three times just today.

I've had the drivers crash once, but don't exactly remember the situation, just that I definitely was not doing anything GPU-intensive. I've played AC IV: Black Flag for a good few hours, even recording most of it with Shadowplay and hadn't experienced a single issue at the time.

Same as you, running two monitors: One through DVI-D switched to VGA and the other through HDMI. (HD-ready, 1280x1024 and Full-HD, 1920x1080)

My theory is that the card just cannot handle streaming audio for some odd reason. The WMP issues occurred while I was playing music through my in-monitor speakers, and while playing AC IV I had my headphones plugged in, so no audio was streamed through my HDMI-port to my monitor. It is just a theory and I can't confirm it as of yet, but it seems pretty likely.
