Automatically updating when PC is sleeping

Hello! Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this.

I have Win7 desktop I use to work on projects during the week, and I put it to sleep at the end of each day. However, every time there is an update for Win7, the computer seems to 'wake up', install the updates, and automatically restart. It's done this about a dozen times or so in the last year, and several times, I've lost work because of it.

I understand that Win7 needs to restart sometimes for updates, but isn't there some way to keep it from automatically restarting when it's in sleep mode and shouldn't be waking up in the first place? I don't want to have to switch to checking for updates manually, but I'm very frustrated by this.

Thanks again for your help!

Disabling automatic updates (check but do not download/install) is one of the first thing I do after installing Windows to avoid getting pestered with "Restart Now" dialogs that pop up while I'm in the middle of doing something, often causing me to "accidentally agree" to it at a moment where that is the last thing I would have wanted to do... there are too many times where I felt like throwing my PC out the window due to that f...... popup where "Restart" is the default action so I ended up accidentally activating it ~90% of the time when it popped while I am typing.

Automatic updates are too much of a liability for my taste.

Thanks to USAFRet and InvalidError!

I agree with your reasoning, InvalidError. I'm going to try USAFRet's suggestion, and if that doesn't work, I'll just disable them altogether.

Thanks again to you both!
