Lately I upgraded to windows seven ultimate with no upgrade on any of my hardware, am really concerned about my graphics card and upgrading to a windows seven compatible,do i need to change the motherboard for the graphics card to fit?

Solution

I don't know what you were thinking but you can't just upgrade to Windows 7 with hardware that can barely run Windows XP. Ok, here's...

So is the current GPU not working with windows 7, or is it just too weak to run the games you want.

What motherboard do you have? We need to know so we can see if it has a PCI-E x16 slot and which gen of PCI-E. You'll most likely have to upgrade your PSU too.

thenks for the input though, currently the operating system is running but the feature windows aero cannot run on my computer and even the simple games that came with it. my mother board is Intel Corporation D845EBG2 (J2E1), Generic Non-PnP Monitor (1024x768@1Hz) 16MB NVIDIA Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (NVIDIA),cpu Intel Pentium 4 with a 2 Ghz processor, Northwood 0.13um Technology thats the information i can get, my question is with such hardware to cormfortably operate with windows seven ultimate what upgrades should i make apart from the RAM that i will be upgrading to 1.5 Gb. please help.

I don't know what you were thinking but you can't just upgrade to Windows 7 with hardware that can barely run Windows XP. Ok, here's what you need to make Windows 7 run properly and not drive you crazy with lag:
This will be an exercise in cheapness:
CPU: Athlon II X2 270 Regor 3.4GHz - $55

Motherboard: ECS A960M-MV(1.0A) - $42

RAM: CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 - $39

Video Card: XFX One ON-XFX1-STD2 Radeon HD 5450 512MB - $30 (-$15 mail-in-rebate)

PSU: Antec VP-450 450W - $40
Total: $206
If you cannot afford this, you cannot afford to use Windows 7. It's really that simple. Just my video card cost $100 more than this setup.
