I have a feeling it is just a "more accurate" measurement on the newer unit.

I have seen identical coolers have slightly different heatpipe heights.

I do fully understand you, but that case has more than 0.5 mm left from the cooler to the case panel.

That case is only 7.5 inches deep. If it fits at all it will be really close. My case is about 8.5 " across and I have a Gelid Tranquill in there, and maybe an inch clearance between the top and the cover. Personally I wouldn't consider a case 7.5 inches wide. There certainly isn't going to much if any provision for wire / cable management in that thing.
