Sims 3 shutting PC down

I recently built a new rig and The Sims 3 isn't working. I've tested out other games and they all run just fine (Serious Sam 3, Metro 2033, etc). I've heard that the game throttles and runs the gpu and cpu for everything they're worth. Some people report that it'll jump up to around 1500 FPS.

I can only get to the loading screen and then everything shuts down. When I rebooted my PC and by the time I check the CPU temps, it's climbing down from about 45 degrees back to an idle 20. This is my build:

MOBO: Crosshair V Formula-Z
CPU: FX-8350
RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR3
GPU: Gigabyte HD 7970
Cooler: H100i

I figured those are probably the most important components to list. In the AMD Catalyst, I have "Wait for vertical refresh" set to always on (as I've heard that enabling V-Sync is supposed to help), but I still get the same issue.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution for it? I don't care too much for the game, but my girfriend loves it and was really excited to play it on my new machine. Thanks in advanced for any help you guys can provide!

If you have new drivers, try old drivers, and vice versa. Run it in windowed mode and check Ram usage (i know, you gotta mitigate what it's not though), patch the game if its not.

Also check the throttling on your cpu, if you know it's not overheating turn it off (maybe run prime first and check cpu temps) also do a general stress test with prime, it could be memory errors/corrupt memory sectors, check hard drive for corrupt sectors. Hopefully that's enough to start with ;)

Still no luck. Anyone know if there's data I can configure in the actual Sims 3 files? Or does anyone know of some software that will fix this issue? I would have thought v-sync would work.

My PC is doing the exact same thing, starting the Sims 3 is fine, but when loading into a town it shuts down, when starting up it gives a power surge warning. What PSU are you using?

I'd just about given up on this topic until I saw a reply. Sorry to revive an old issue, but the problem is still persistant, I just hadn't tested it until now. Anyways, this is my PSU:
