Hello!

Recently I got myself a used machine and upgaded it. It had 128 GB Western Digital HDD (I thought so), but while installing new CPU and MoBo, I noticed that HDD's capacity is actually 1.0TB. But it still displays just 137.4 GB in BIOS, even on the new MoBo (BIOS version was released in July 2013)

I searched the web and learned about old Windows XP and 28-bit LBA problems, but I have Win7 installed and I highly doubt my ASUS B85-PLUS MoBo doesn't support 48-bit LBA.

I tried checking HDD with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic both for Windows and DOS, and it says that the drive is perfectly fine.

So, maybe the problem is in HDD itself? I don't know if it was ever working as 1.0TB HDD.

Solution
HDat2 or HDD Capacity restore tool typically can fix this issue.

Have you checked the disk in disk management (diskmgmt.msc)? If not, click on start, type diskmgmt.msc in the search box and press enter. Once disk management is up look at the drive and see if there is any unallocated space. Post your findings if you need more help.

No, there's no unallocated space. Here's a screenshot (I have Russian system language)

Wow, HDAT2 fixed everything. More than 800 GB was eaten by HPA. Thank you very much! Here's a screenshot:

HDD Capacity Restore Tool doesn't seeem to work in Win7, though.
