Minimize and Maximize Issues.

So this is a bit of a weird situation. One I've tried and tried to figure out but have no clue whatsoever:

It happened about a week and a half ago, maybe two weeks, but all of a sudden I can't maximize games correctly/normally. E.g when playing a game I will Alt+Tab/Windows Key to the desktop, do whatever, but now I'm unable to open my game back up. No matter what I try, alt+tabbing back in, windows+tab, clicking the icon in my tray.
This next bit might be a bit hard to understand, but when I click my game in the task list along the bottom, the icon will become 'full in colour' as if it's maximized, but I'm still on the desktop (I can still use my internet browser, chrome). The only workaround I've found is by alt+enter when the icon has become 'full'.

I'm on Windows 7 64bit. I've updated drivers etc. I don't have a system restore point to before I know when this occurred.
I have a feeling it might have something to do with user permissions, though? I've recently (and stupidly, ) edited some user permissions for my Program Files folder on my (C:) because I had some trouble when deleting things as apparently "I didn't have permission". But I can't see how this is affecting maximizing games??

Any help would be fully appreciated. I can live with clicking and alt+enter but as fellow PC users, I'm sure you can understand and respect how annoying this can be.

Thanks,

Dan

No idea.
Does the problem still occur after a REBOOT and opening NO other programs except the game?

For future reference, I use Acronis True Image and it makes automated, weekly backups of my C-Drive (and deletes older ones). I always have about six backups spread a week apart.

I did Google your problem as well but it didn't seem easily solved.

I had this issue with GTA IV and windows 8.Are you using any monitoring programs like MSI AB?I know it sounds silly, but do you click on the icon in the taskbar more than once when you try to maximize the game window?Try clicking only once after minimizing.Solved the issue for me.
Hope this helps.:)

I don't know about the Windows 8 as I'm running 7. I'm not running any monitoring programs, nor have I had any noticeble updates to programs that may affect the situation. And yes, I only click once :)

The first link doesn't appear to be working.

And I don't think it's the second, because the games aren't minimizing on themselves.

Strange problem...Is your GPU overclocked? I read two threads in the related resources section at the bottom of this page and both solutions suggest it was due to an overclocked video card....Another method-Keep alt+Tab pressed and try ''switching'' windows from the thumbnails that appear...not a very satisfying solution, but will help for the time being..:) .Another *possible* cause can be if the game window is being maximized 'out of view',if you are using multiple monitors, though it seems unlikely....

Nope, haven't touched the GPU for overclocking. And neither do I have multiple monitors.

Alright,I searched for your problem but couldn't find much...Try restoring Windows to the best possible restore point you can find..I don't know about Windows 7 but Windows 8 (what I am using now) lets you scan for affected programs,so I am guessing it should be there in Windows 7 too.See which programs would be affected and go for the one with the least 'damage'...Are you running a factory overclocked GPU,by any chance? This thread-

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/66514-63-games-minimize-gameplay-maximize

here suggests that it could be due to a unstable overclock from the manufacturer.

Like I said, I don't have a restore point before this problem occurred. And my GPU has been fine for a year and a half since I got it.

Hi Psychosocial94,
Do you remember what changes you have made to user permissions? If possible ,you could reverse those changes or reset your user permissions to default-

answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/how-to-reset-all-user-permissions-to-default/9da312d2-c99b-4283-a275-e74d93dcc366

Do it ONLY if you are comfortable with editing user permissions.Hope this helps. :)
