I've been researching for my build that I'll be assembling at Christmas and I've been keeping an eye out on HD 7950's. The Sapphire HD 7950 just dropped to $190, which is the lowest I've ever seen it. Should I buy it now or do you think it will have a lower price in the future before christmas?

If you are assembling til Christmas, then you could wait. There may be a better price on say Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Answer is on the homepage. R9 290 X will be available very soon. Prices will probably drop more.

Buy it now, that card's price won't get any lower then that any time soon.

considering they're planning the R9-270x (7870) for a $180/$200 floor, i would expect $190 is close to as low as you can expect it to go. I'd snatch them up while they're trying to clear out the old cards for the re-branding as an r9-280

Yeah. I'm also worried that in 2 months when I assemble it, I'll find it DOA and won't be able to return it. Maybe I shouldn't impulse buy on this one.

There is warranty for cards.

Does the 2-year limited warranty cover that? I'm just worried at the "Return for replacement within: 30 days" in the details.

That's the reseller warranty. The manufacturer warranty (Sapphire) is for 2 years, which would cover a DOA video card. Would just likely have a longer turnaround time than Newegg/Amazon etc.

Oh, k. Do you think this card will ever go lower or should I jump on this deal? Only thing I hate would be letting such a great graphics card just sit there on the shelf for two months. :p

Before you mentioning this deal, the cheapest I've seen a 7950 go for was $230. It's tough to say. The 7970 rebrand is going to be sold cheaper than a 7970, however the 7870 rebrand is more expensive. Do you have a computer you can use the 7950 in for the meantime? I think either way you're only going to lose or save $20~ at most. Can't really go wrong either way.

No. This will be my first ever gaming (and custom) PC build. I've been gaming on a laptop (i5-2450m) for the last year and 8 months, and before that a Core 2 Duo (both integrated graphics). It's definitely exciting :D . Thanks for all the help by the way.

They can go for lower than $230. I've seen them <$200 though only with rebates or they were reference cards.

So far lowest I've seen was the MSI one for $204.99 base with $30 mail in rebate.
I've seen a ton of people say that card runs SUPER hot though, which is why I've been avoiding it. It's only got one fan on it.
