I connected my other moniter to my mobo but it doesnt seem to be working. Will this even work? if so, how?

Hi,
I don't believe HDMI or Displayport have passive adapters to DVI (DVI-> HDMI yes but I don't think the other way).

*If so, my advice is get an inexpensive HD6450 or similar for as little as $20 (Newegg or wherever). Basically any PCIe card and LESS is better since you only want it to drive a monitor.

The amount of VIDEO RAM should be no more than 512MB if you have 32-bit Windows. If you have 64-bit Windows it doesn't matter.

Example of video card ($15, after $15MIR):

What GPU do you have? You can connect using different ports, i.e. DVI and a HDMI.

I am currently running 2 active monitors and 1 alternate monitor. The active ones are using both DVI ports on my GPU and the 3rd is connect via HDMI. I can switch to the 3rd monitor by deactivating one of my DVI monitors and activating the HDMI one.

For best results, you'll want the monitors to be the same resolution.

You can get adapters to convert both dvi and displayport to hdmi and/or vga connections. The dvi is probably the easiest as you can get passive adapters for a few pounds. I believe the displayport adapters are a bit more expensive weighing in at about £15-25.

As to why your 2nd monitor isn't working with the on-board graphics, when a discrete graphics card is installed the integrated will normally disable itself. You can enter the bios and change a setting which will keep your intgegrated graphics active while a discrete card is installed. You will probably also have to enter the resolution settings on your desktop where you can enable/disable and change the resiolution of connected screens.
