My WD external hard was dropped. It worked for a little while but it had power issues (would not turn on) so I had to jiggle the power cord to turn it on. It does not work now. I removed the drive and connected it to my PC using the Apricorn universal hard drive adapter. My PC does not recognize it. It shows up in the device manager but states it is not initialized and disk is unlnown. How can I recover the data on the drive?

Yes of course- inside is a plain old hard drive. WD does an especially good job making tear-down of their enclosures ridiculous but you should see a take-apart video on Youtube for your model. Every WD external I've had (3) have all had their enclosure die after about 2 years. The drives inside? Just fine.

The drive label states "WD15EARS" and "WD Caviar Green"
