I've had a 1TB portable hard drive from Wester Digital for almost 2 years now, never had any problems before. Use it mostly to store family pictures and videos. Everything is organized into folders, separated by events/dates. Last week I plug it in and realize that I'm missing A LOT of content. I had about 350GB of content and now i only have around 305. Entire folders are missing and also files within folders are missing. I'm not sure what caused this, im GUESSING i ejected without safely removing but I'm not even sure. I ran some free recovery software and the diagnostics said there were 20,000 files corrupted. I used another software called Kroll Ontrack Recovery and it said it would take 8 days to analyze. Any suggestions about what could of happened or what I can do to get my files back?

This is a difficult and sad way to learn that 1 device should never be entrusted with your only copy of important data/files.
I trust you've backed up what is left on this drive for I fear it could completely fail at any time. From the sounds o it it suffered bad sector to which the data could not be recovered by the drive itself. You could check the drives SMART data and see please. Western Didigtal should have a download available to do that as well as test the drive.

For data recovery try recuva but use the deep scan option which will take quite some time also.
