So I built a PC a few months ago and it works good for browsing the web etc. but I can't game. When I try to play a game, the screen goes black and I alt-tab to the desktop and the game is not responding. This happens for basically any game. At first I though it was a probably with not having enough wattage so I went from a CX500 to a CX600. I still have the problem so it must be my video card. Unfortunately, my Amazon warranty is up so I would have to return it to the manufacturer. This is my video card. I paid $170 for it on Amazon which had pretty good reviews. I have no clue how to return it if that Is what I need to do. Can I have some help please? Thanks

chad before you rule the gpu dead. make sure your bios is updated to rule out a bios bug and you have the newest motherboard chipset drivers and make sure flash and directx you have the newest loaded. if you have a newer intel motherboard make sure on the motherboard driver cd you did not install lucidlogix virtu mvp software it real buggy. it was made to bond the ipgpu and gpu to give people greater frame rates. on the back of your pc make sure your not on the onboard video gpu port. on the motherboard and the gpu card check on the motherboard the four or eight pin pci power plug is connected and seated. on the gpu make sure if there two power plugs both are connected.

I had the same issue and for me it wasn't the video card or the drivers. It was a .NET installation that resolved it. It seemed like when the 1st load screen for a game should load, my screen went black and stayed there until I forced it closed with CTRL ALT DELETE.

I read recently that .NET 3.5 I think is included in Windows 8 but not enabled, and you have to go into settings somewhere to enable it. Standard video troubleshooting is get the latest drivers first, have you tried that?

Im sure you could game well with that card. One make sure your bios and mother board drivers are all installed and up to date. Two go into your bios if you have a chip thats igp and disable it.
Three go to windows updates and make sure you have all the latest updates. Four undate any amd drivers for the card on amd,s website as others spoke of above be sure to have net installed 3.5
If you card was truely bad you wouldnt be able to surf the web Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks for responding. I got the newest bios. The newest drivers from AMD. Newest chipset. Newest windows updates. And I still have the problem. Do you think it is the video card or is there still something not installed. Another thing I thought that might be the problem is that I only have 4gb of 1333 ram. I don't think that is the problem but a possibility.

Well I have an update for you. I downloaded the Unigine Heaven benchmark and set it to 1920x1080 at medium settings with ambient occlusion. Ran a benchmark and it didn't freeze up at all. It ran the entire bechmark fine with an average of 60 fps. I don't understand how my gpu worked fine on the benchmark, but on games, they freeze and say not responding.
