I've hooked up my motherboard to my surround sound receiver and I'm not getting any sound through my receiver whatsoever. I've tried adjusting my sound settings and going through the Realtek HD audio center. Any ideas? I have no idea what to do at this point.

Assuming S/PDIF output is set as the default sound output device (as your post implies it should be), it should transmit to your receiver. Are you sure everything is setup correctly at the receiver side?

It turned out my optical cable was bad. My receiver settings were a off as well so thank you for making me think of that. I usually don't mess with my settings but we have little hands in the house who like to push buttons.
