Hi forum,

I will be buying the card in about 2 months time and my budget is between $400-$550. It's mainly because I want to be ready for the next generation of games and my current GPU won't do that for me. I'll be gaming at 1920x1080 resolution. I'm looking to buy a high end card but for the best performance and price.

I will be planning to overclock and maybe SLI/Crossfire in the future. It doesn't really matter to me if its AMD or Nvidia, I just want the best bang for my buck! I've been kind of leaning towards getting the new AMD cards like the R9 290x (Whenever
it releases) and the R9 280x but I wanna hear other peoples opinions about different cards. Also, will my CPU bottleneck if I get a high end card? I currently have a i5-3330 at 3.0GHz.

Thanks!

Solution
Honestly it doesn't make sense to spend more than $300 on the R9 280X when it comes out. The GTX 770 is no faster, and the GTX 780 and R9 290X are going to be more than double the price for 15-20% more performance. You could wait to see if Nvidia drops their prices this winter, but you probably still won't get a better card for the money than the R9 280X.

Thing is, there hasn't really been a lot of information about price, performance, or a release date. It's also been called the "Titan Killer" so I'm kind of expecting it to be out of my price range.

well, there's a LOT of possibilities with a $550 budget...
Obviously you should either get a AMD or nVidia card, within your price range you could get one of these;

nvidia GTX 770 (the ASUS and EVGA ones are really great)
nvidia GTX 680 (the older model, the 780 will replace it soon but still really powerful)
AMD r9 290
-> I would personally recommend the r9 290(no X) because it seems to fit within your price range and will be a beast of a card with a lot of new features (e.g. mantle) so you will be gaming at the highest resolutions for a long while...

When buying a new major pc-part (like a graphics card) you might want to check with your other parts if everything is compatible

hope I could help!

EDIT: I don't think your cpu would bottleneck any of these cards... and indeed Í forgot about the 280X but that would be quite low within your price range but still a really awesome card for the money and max out pretty much everything too!

+1 to that
The 280X has a great price/performance ratio! you might want to take that into account!
