New GPU's performance not as high as I thought?

I just installed a Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum into my PC.
On LoL the FPS stays at around 50. in Rift and Witcher 2 the FPS also stays at around the same number. I don't have Vsync on and my monitor is 120 hertz anyway.

The GPUs light is always light blue, never red or dark blue. I installed the latest AMD drivers and the software that comes with the GPU.

Is something wrong with my GPU? Especially in LoL I would have expected it to run over 100. Is the GPU locking itself at this FPS?

I wonder because I just want to make sure there is nothing wrong with the card not because I want 500 FPS.

The CPU definitely isn't the issue because I upgraded the motherboard, RAM and CPU recently.

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
Intel Core i5 4670
Kingston HyperX Blu 1x8 GByte DDR3-1600

Also, when installing the card I wasn't so sure abotu some things. My PSU has 6 pin connectors but next to the 6pin connector there's a 2pin hanging loose which you just insert together with the 6pin for the 8pin connector on the card. I put 2x8 into it.

Then there was this VGA hotwire cable in the box but I had no idea what it is so I just left it out. The place that goes into the motherboard had this cover on it as protection which I obviously removed. However on the opposite side there was another area which looked like the area that goes into the motherboard, just a lot smaller and it also had a protector on it. I thought that it's not a good idea to have this plastic sticking on the card when it runs and removed it as well. Was that the right thing to do? I obviously didn't plug anything onto it either.

Ok, don't know why you got single channel RAM when your cpu supports dual channel though. Look at usages in game for gpu and cpu. Use task manager>performance for cpu usage loking at the core usage graphs (not overall) and msi afterburner for gpu usage. Which one is maxing out?

Also, you should never use the disc that comes with the gpu. Always download the newest driver from the website.

You are only running single channel RAM? That could be your bottleneck

Ideally you should run 2 sticks of ram, otherwise you will be in single channel mode and running at half the speed

I run single channel because when I upgraded I didn't want to buy 2x4 but I also didn't want to buy 16 right away since I don't play anything that really needs more than 8.

I also downloaded the drivers from the AMD website which was the first thing I did. I uninstalled everything from Nvidia from the PC before installing the card. I only installed the other software called tweakit from the CD.

You should have bought 2x4. Single channel ram could be whats holding your system back.

What is your CPU usage and temps in a game?

They gave me 3 games of my choice. One of them is Far Cry 3. It's the most GPU intensive game I have now I guess. I will download it and see how it goes. I doubt the GPU can play Far Cry 3 at 50+ fps with only 25% usage or the light blue light.

I just ran 3D Mark because FC3 kept crashing on loading.

The results were 169519 in Icestorm, 18352 in Cloud Gate and 7139 in Fire Strike.
The card turned red sometimes which is good I guess. However once it was only giving 25 FPS and stayed light blue which I don't get. I thought it should be red to perform better.

I'm going to press the + button and run the test again, maybe it will give better results.

I ran it again and got similar results. However I noticed that 3D Mark shows my memory clock as 1600 when it should be 6600. GPU Tweak is showing 6600. Maybe because the GPU doesn't always run at full power 3D Mark registered a lower clock? I still don't understand why the GPU doesn't perform better when it runs only 24 fps.
