I was wondering if these things I've gathered are compatible and which CPU would you recommend getting for good gaming performance?

Budget for the CPU would be within $100-$200 range.

Just recently bought the following:

Mobo: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z
Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i
SSD: Corsair Neutron GTX 240gb
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D
GPU: RADEON R7 260X 2GB (x2)
PSU: Corsair CX750M ATX
Cpu: ?????????????

A good CPU would be the FX-8350.

You should spend less on the motherboard and get an Asus Sabertooth 990fx instead of the ROG board. use that money to upgrade to a higher tier GPU

Yeah the Asus Sabertooth 990fx is pretty good but it's only a $30-50 difference and I'm looking forward to upgrades in the future so that's why I choose the Crosshair Formula instead plus all it's simple OC system is quite nice.

I was planning on grabbing the Amd Radeon r9 280x but not quite in my budget. They are best for the price on benchmark and performance.

Why spend more money on an FX 8350? FX 8350 is essentially just an overclocked FX 8320.
