With the 680 and the i5 you have paired up on your PC, you can play any game released today on high/ultra at 1080p no problems. I have a 770 (which is basically a tweaked 680) and I can play anything out there right now. So you are good to go :)

yep. you'll be able to manage most games in 1080p ultra details and 60fps with that. might struggle to hit 60fps in BF4 or Crysis 3, but you should be gold in everything else. in those two games turning the graphic candy down a little tiny bit will likely net you 60fps.

if you want a guaranteed 60fps in every game on the highest settings grab another 680 to SLi with the one coming with that computer.

This is my opinion:

Well, typically, your build is capable of most games that have been recently released. However, I've noticed, based on recent games' system specs like battlefield 4 and watchdogs, that 8 core processors or 4 core processors with hyper threading have a better advantage playing the upcoming games.
If you could replace your 3570k with a 3770k or a 4770k then that would be much better. If you feel it's too much, I would recommend getting an AMD based processor like the 8 core 8350. Its cheaper and performs really good and is highly overclockable.
Benchmarks made by Tek Syndicate have shown that the 8350 performed at par or slightly better than the 3770k in gaming. You can look it up if you want on youtube.
The rest of the parts in my opinion are all great.

I like AMD and all... i even have the AMD advocate badge on these forums. But i'm not a fan boy. I enjoy AMD cpus for the overclocking fun mostly, not because i think they're the best chip around. that and because i think a healthy AMD is nessessary for this hobby i love.

I would call your post a bit misleading. Teksyndicate found a game or two that supported multiple cores then streamed video at the same time as playing the game. now as anyone can attest, streaming game video is very cpu intensive... those extra cores really helped out the fx cpu, and the result was, while streaming vid, the fx cpu did a better job kicking out the high framerates then a bunch of quad core intels.

The reality is, 95% or more of games on the market are single or dual threaded titles. these titles really REALLY favor the core i family because of the 30%-40% IPC advantage of an intel cpu. Even in games that are fully threaded which the fx8350 "wins" the benches, the difference is typically less then 5%. in short if you want a high end gaming machine, and cost isn't an issue you get an intel. If you plan to SLi/xfire you get an intel (fx cpus really handicap SLi/xfire setups)...

The fact of the matter is, the OP will hit over 60fps in every single game on the market or in beta (bf4) with that i5... he doesn't need an i7 or an fx8350 to get to 60fps.

To replace a 3570k with a AMD 8350 for gaming is insanity. They perform very very closely, so a switch would be a waste of money. Plus its overclocked to 4.4Ghz, you wont need more CPU power in games than this for years.

Well, your partly right. It's true that they perform similarly based on current and recently released games. However, have you seen the system requirement for the games to be released like watch dogs? The MINIMUM is a 4 core processor, granted it may be an older 4 core, but still. The recommended processor is an 8 core or a processor with 4 cores and 8 threads like the 3770.

But your probably right, I'm sure it will run just fine, however, I'm a little worried about the longevity of it. Don't get me wrong, I have a 3570k my self clocked at 4.2 ghz. I'm just a little bit concerned about the fact that next gen games are going to be utilizing more than just 4 cores.
I guess we'll just have to see how well it performs when next gen comes.

BTW, it's not actually a waste of money since he hasn't purchased the parts yet. He just said it was a build he was planning on going with. Irrelevant but I just wanted to point that out.

Still, 4 very fast cores will be enough for a while, and still better than 8 slower cores in 90% of cases.

4 Fast overclocked cores in the 2500k still are better in Battlefield 4 than more slower cores as per the i7 3960x and the AMD 8350:

To sum it up...

Could This Computer Play Most Games?
Yes.

Games it can run:
Pretty much every game that i can think of on PC. Maybe Metro 2033 will challenge it, but wont be an issue.

Games it cannot run:
No game that I can think of.

BF4 does use 8 cores...

You can have a game that uses 8, 16, or even a million cores. But no one will care about the number of cores when benchmarks show a 4 core perform better...

Back to the OP, your specs will perform very well in demanding games at high settings. You will do Ultra in Battlefield 4. I know because I was running Ultra in the multiplayer beta with i5-3570k anda single HD 7950, which is weaker than the GTX 680 :)

And then performance will only get better as games and drivers receive optimization updates.
