Hiya. I have an Antec GX700 case and I rather like its system of controlling the three included fans: there is a 3-way switch on the top of the case with off/low/max positions, with the low being almost completely unnoticable, ideal for when I'm only using it lightly. The only problem is that I want to add another case fan, and not knowing anything about case fans, I don't know whether they will work with this like the stock fans do. Before you even ask, I am not interested in installing a front panel fan controller, which I know can control fan speeds. It seems like this should be simple, but I just want to make sure I'm not making a stupid mistake.

So, the initial setup of the case was one rear 120 and two top 140 exhaust fans, with one extra 3-pin header to control another. I relocated the frontmost top 140 fan to the front and made it an intake (believing that it was taking cool air that hadn't even cooled any components away from the case). It isn't meant to fit there, but it worked with a little ingenuity.

Now I want to put an extra 120 as intake in the side spot, both to cool the GPU and to make a slight positive pressure (assuming the aftermarket fan is more powerful than the stock fans), which should make less dust stay in the case. And, so long as an aftermarket fan will work with that 3-way controller on top of the GX700, that is what I will do. That's where you guys come in! Will that work?

Cheers for any help!

In case it matters, (but it shouldn't):

GX700 case
msi Z87 G45 gaming motherboard
i5 4570 cpu
MSI OC 660ti gpu
Samsung 840 evo 250Gb SSD
Antec Neo eco 620W PSU
Gskill Ares 1600 8Gb RAM.
No HSF as of yet, because the Coolermaster hyper 212 evo was out of stock.

The fan controller will ONLY control 3 fans at once.

While you may be able to use splitters to add more, it is NOT recommended as Antec does not list the fan controllers current handling.

Many motherboards can control fans based on system loading giving you an automatic system for the extra fans.

Are you sure? Where did you get that from? It would seem very very strange to include 4 fan headers if it can only control 3....

Maybe I miscounted[It DOES seem to be 4](looking at a bundle of cables in an image) the leads, but either way they design it for so many fans. I would not exceed the number of connectors coming from the controller.

For 100% information, contacting Antec is the best option.

Riiiight. Well done. Maybe next time read the OP, where I made it perfectly clear how many fan headers there were.

Anyone got an actual clue?
