Dear Tom's Hardware users.
The graphics on my half a year old Lenovo U410 were great. But now in VLC mediaplayer a severe worsening has occured. I checked the display settings and other stuff. I didn't change anything.
1. Where do I have to look for solutions?
2. How could this happen?

Thank you in advance and with kind regards, Eise

If you are using the same video files or disks, but the video appears to have a poorer resolution, you may want to check your display resolution. Simply enter Display at the Start Screen and select Change Display Settings from under the Settings category. Under the Resolution drop down menu, ensure that the slider is set at the maximum resolution. This is covered under the Get the best display on your monitor article from Windows Support. You may also wish to update your display drivers and VLC.

Another method to help determine the issue could be to play the file or disk in Windows Media Player to ensure that the issue is not isolated to VLC. Again if it is isolated to VLC updating to the latest version may resolve the issue.

Lastly, if the issue is persistent even with updated versions of the drivers and application and the resolution is configured correctly, you may have a performance issue where some other application is consuming resources and causing the issue. Explore what is running on your system by right clicking the Taskbar and selecting Task Manager. Select More details to see an expanded view of running applications and their consumption of CPU, memory, disk, and network resources.
