Hey guys! I am looking to upgrade my CPU on my P35C-DS3R mobo. I am currently running an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850, and was wondering what the most viable upgrade for gaming performance would be. Thanks!

The most common reply seems to be to just save up for an overhaul - I am already running a HD6970 with 8gb ddr3, so what would be a good mobo/CPU combo to go with that? Not looking to spend more than around $500AUS if it can be avoided!

Thanks again guys!

Hi. You can use a Core2 Extreme or Core2 Quad. It may require a BiOS update though.

don't waste your money, the e6850 is pretty high up there in terms of performace for a 775 board. if anything try and overclock.

if you want to spend money, youd be better off with a cheap dual core pentium g, new motherboard and ddr3 ram. at least you will have the ability to upgrade to an i5/i7 when needed. and the new pentium g's can run.

Pretty much any Core2Duo or Core2Quad will work with that board.

Unless you can find a better CPU for dirt cheap upgrading is a waste of money though as you are spending money on an obsolete socket ( LGA 775 ). You are much better off saving money and doing a platform upgrade of motherboard, CPU and RAM.
