Hi guys. I've got an old 4890 in my system and I'm looking to finally upgrade it. I'm looking to pay in the $150-200 range. I think the 7970 would offer a significant performance boost. Do you think the price will drop to my ideal price range after the 280 launches? If not, what other card do you think would be a good upgrade? Also, my CPU would not bottleneck a 7970 right?

My system:
i7920@4ghz
6gb DDR3
4890

Thanks.

They are the same card, so no. However the 270X is only about ~25% weaker. With overclocking it would easily come close to the same in performance. However you would only be getting 2GB of VRAM...

Considering 280x has already launched, and 7970 prices are still around 300, I'd guess no. I would just go ahead and get a 7950 for about $180, then overclock. And your CPU is not a bottleneck.
