I just built my very first PC. I got an Asus M5A97 LE 2.0 motherboard and it's running a six-core AMD FX-6300. At the moment I have 2 exhaust fans, one on the back and one on top. I have no intake fans on the front, however, I ordered one and it should be here in a few days. Despite my lack of fans, my motherboard idling temperature is around 35 degrees celcius and when I put a load on it, it can reach over 50 degrees celcius!! Does this seem really hot even for not having an intake fan? Is it normal? Will the intake fan help a lot? Please help!!

Solution

Idling around 35C is normal. I had a system with poor airflow and the motherboard idled around 40C. Actually after further review.. I had that exact same motherboard and...

The room temp is around 70 degree Fahrenheit. Even doing things as simple as downloading updates for games raises the temperature of the mobo. Right now it's sitting at 46 degrees Celsius, however I'm downloading some files. Any other suggestions? I feel like under an intense game it's going to get to hot.

So even running without a load in the 40-50 C is normal? If I play some pretty graphically intensive games it shouldn't burn up the board right? Because my processor is running at a perfectly fine temperature. So I shouldn't worry about burning it up?

50C is normal under a full system load.

Nothing to worry about!

I have a 200mm inake fane as well as three 120mm Exhaust fans. It is all about airflow through the case. My MOBO temp is at 28c at the moment and ambient temp is probably around 70F. The temps you have now are fine, but not normal. The intake fane will help to establish some airflow through your case.

Okay because that's the thing, I know running between 40-50 C is okay. But, when it's not running a load that seems awful hot! I don't really understand why it's that hot though, I know an intake fan will help a little but I wouldn't think it'd help enough.

Your safe!

Solution

THose things can make a big difference. They are located in the Bottom front pushing air in with the exhaust pulling from the top rear. Even when I am under load, I can put my hand over the top fans and the air blowing out is cool. With the airflow I have established, I can even feel air being pulled into the side vent.

Okay, so here's another question. How much will it go up when playing a first person shooter at full graphic settings? For example, Battlefield Bad Company 2 or League of Legends. Will I be safe running games like those until I get that intake fan or should I not do much until I get it?

I haven't noticed a big difference in Motherboard temps, but then again, I have some good air flow through there as you can see by this pic. I also tried to keep the clutter down which helps:

For people looking at this post for advice, the fan is over the motherboard components that generally run hot. The OP stated that he is getting good motherboard airflow, but in reality his isn't. The fan is blocking airflow to the components directly below it.
