I recently maxed my hp pavilion a430n from 512 to 2Gb of ram. BIOS showed the ram and system worked fine for a few minutes then crashed to blue error screen, this happened twice, now it will not boot up unless in safe mode. Reported errors were DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and Kmixer.sys. Im guessing i need to update a driver/s but i dont know what. Thanks for any help.

Solution

That Could be the problem, try lowering it to 2048mb Virtual Memory

Try booting into safe mode by pressing F8 on start up before the xp logo shows and leave the system on for a few hours to see if its stable, if your still unsure how to get into safe mode look it up on youtube!

Tried that after first two crashes and ran fine for about 30 min in safe mode while i searched the web for solutions then crashed to black screen. reinstalled old 512 ram and its running fine. Note- i did change virtual memory to 3020 mb when i had 2 GB ram installed with only another 3.5 GB free hard drive space. Maybe not enough free space left?
