Hi, I have a Sony vaio SVE14A35CXH With Windows 8.

I have read many articles around the black screen problem in order to fix my black screen. I get the black screen after Vaio logo ,and after few seconds cursor also will appear.

It doesn't go to bios or recovery options. Ctrl+Alt+delete doesn't work. taking out the battery, holding down the power bottom for 5 second doesn't do anything. connecting to external display doesn't work. NOT any error message. It doesn't accept bootable dvd or usb...

This happened when I created a new administrator account and deleted the old one , and restarted the laptop.

This person upload a video which exactly shows my problem !

Thanks a lot for any answers.

Solution

Hi, Thanks for your response. no, Assist button didn't work too. anyway I fixed it. this is how...

I took out the hard driver, put it on my other laptop, installed a new windows 8 on it, and put it back. so I just saved money, time and my new laptop. I believe the problem was because of the 'fast boot option' feature in...
Presumably you have an Assist Button and it does nothing...?
Normally I would consult your Manual for advice on disconnecting the CMOS battery to reset CMOS, but your User Guide doesn't even mention it...Nor Is there any method to flash your BIOS. Probably best to return to SONY and let them sort it out. Unless you want to risk stripping it to find the CMOS battery to see if removing it for 30secs helps...

My laptop is a Compaq nx9600 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD, ATI Mobility Radeon X300 64 MB that came with Windows XP Pro.

When I Installed Windows 8 Pro., I had problems with the Radeon X300 driver, don´t ask me how or where I found the correct driver because I do not remember, but it still there and it was working prefect at 1650.

Then I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro, I made it search for the video driver from an external HDD where I saved all of the drivers I tried for the video card. Well, it worked for a couple of days then it started to have this balck screen problem at startup.

At this moment I managed to work arround this problem by turning the laptop on and when I get the black screen, I unplug the power cord from the laptop (not from the wall), wait a few seconds, plug it back in and after turning it on, is not black but it gives me the "Locked" background image, I do one click and it asks me for my password.
Other than that, every thing is perfect, even the screen drivers.

I hope this info helps someone.

Good luck!

Hi all- I have had the 'Black Screen' problem for weeks- got Vaio at start-up, but then went to Black Screen. If you shone the torch on it you could see the desk top vaguely in the background. We had a computer 'geeks on the run' guy have a look at it- but he couldn't offer any help or advice, except that perhaps the motherboard might have gone.

My husband took it back to place of purchase today, and the young guy there used a torch to show my husband that the screen brightness indicator was right down. He pressed the Fn (function) button (held it down), and F6 ( a few times), which is the Brightness button, and raised the brightness level- and up it came- fully back to normal screen!. When he brought it home and we started up again - totally black screen again! But it came back as soon as we followed the same routine. There is obviously something that happens to the Brightness levels when you turn off. Thankfully no extreme costs.

Funnily enough I saw something similar today on a Vaio V series.. Its not dead it just looks it.

F2 on boot brings up the bios and you can see it boot normally on an external screen, once it drops into Windows the laptop display comes back on.. The thing is from the external screen the default option was start up repair so the computer would just sit there for 30 minutes and user got frustrated thinking nothing was happening and switched it off and restarted the cycle.

Its a bios issue, sending initial boot to an external screen is a configurable option on some laptops but not in the Sony bios however it appears to bug itself in there. I imagine clearing or reflashing the bios would solve this but both have risks for users, maybe best to take it to a shop.
